Description Atlantic Cod. This chap chose to hide his face and not show it to the crazy humans around him. I lingered for several minutes but the cod had no intention of revealing himself. No wonder- the Atlantic Cod was once the favourite food fish of humans and the sport of catching cod was called 'cod fishing' or 'cod-ing'. Apart from consuming fresh, many Atlantic cod were salted and preserved for future consumption. Large scale over-fishing has meant that Atlantic Cod populations are on the decline and cod fishing is therefore severely restricted. No wonder this poor chap did not want to show his face. Atlantic Cod can grow to 2 mtr. in length and weigh up to 96 kg and can live for 25 years. They usually attain sexual maturity between ages two and four. (Toronto, Canada, Nov.2015)
